About Provost


Professor Ahmed Abo-Ismail is the Provost of “ Egypt – Japan University of Science and Technology” E-JUST, “Vice President for Education and Academic Affairs”. He received his Dr. Eng. Degree from Tokyo Institute of Technology, TIT, Japan; 1979. He is a full professor of Automatic Control and Mechatronics, E-JUST, Egypt. He was appointed secretary general of the higher committee for establishing E-JUST headed by H.E. Ministerial of Higher Education, under the ministerial decree No. 3277 dated 28/12/2006, and member of “E-JUST Establishment Executive Committee” under the ministerial decree No. 16674 on 31/7/2008. Professor Abo-Ismail was the Dean of Faculty of Engineering in Assiut University from 2003 to 2006 and Vice-Dean for Postgraduate studies and Research from 2000 to 2003. He was the General Manager of “Engineering Consultations and Studies Center” at Assiut Univ.1999- 2000.


Professor Abo-Ismail is the founder of Mechatronics education in Egypt, and has established the Mechatronics educational programs in Assiut University since 2000, he also established the “Engineering Education Development Center” as center of Excellency at Assiut University in 2004. Professor Abo-Ismail held positions overseas. He served as a Visiting Professor (Fulbright award) PSU-USA 1987, and to Budapest Tech., in 2000 and to Prague Technical University in 2003. He is an Honorary Professor of Budapest Tech., Hungary. In 2006, he served as a Visiting Professor to Slovak Technical University. He served as IFAC Chair (International Federation of Automatic Control) for African, Asian and South American Countries, 2003-2006. He is Judicial Arbitrator in Mechanical Engineering and Factories, under the decree of the Minister of Justice No. 2105 -1995, and Consultant Engineer No.3/6281 in the field of Measurements and Control, Engineering Syndicate decree in 3/12/1989. He was the national Coordinator of the “Symposium on Advances in Engineering Sciences and Technologies” STDF-JST Feb. 15-16, 2010 Cairo, Egypt, and the Secretary General of the IEEE-7th Intelligent Engineering Systems IES Conference, Luxor, 2003.Professor Abo -Ismail is the author of more than 100 scientific papers in refereed Journals and International Conferences. He supervised more than 60 M.Sc. degree students and more than 20 Ph.D. Degree students and he attended more that 50 International Conferences.


Professor Abo-Ismail’s main areas of research are Robust Control, Intelligent Fuzzy Control, Variable Structure Control, Design and Control of Smart Grippers, Design and Control of Intelligent Piezoelectric Actuators, Development and control of Versatile Soft- Gripper, Intelligent Mechatronics System, Intelligent Control of a Flexible Robot Arm, VR –Hepatic Surgical Simulators, Smart actuators, Landmines detections, Surgical Manipulators and Assistive devices.


Professor Abo-Ismail is a member of JSME, ASME and associate editor of Acta Polytenica, Hungary.
Professor Abo-Ismail obtained his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Alexandria University in 1967, while he received his master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Assiut University in 1971 and his doctorate degree in Precision Machinery Systems from TIT, Japan in 1979.
