Prof. Ahmed El-Sabbagh, President of Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology (E-JUST), discussed opportunities to strengthen academic and research cooperation with the University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS) during his visit to the Sultanate of Oman. The discussions focused on expanding collaboration between the two universities and exchanging expertise in education, scientific research, and innovation.

Prof. El-Sabbagh was received by Prof. Said bin Hamad Al-Rubaie, President of the University of Technology and Applied Sciences, along with a number of the university’s senior officials, including Prof. Ahmed bin Ali Al-Shahri, Assistant President at the Salalah Branch; Prof. Ahmed bin Said Al-Shahri, Assistant President at the Musandam Branch; Porf. Nasser Al-Hamr, Assistant President at the Ibri Branch; and Mr. Omar Al-Habsi, Head of the Coordination Section at the Office of the President.

During the meeting, both universities delivered presentations highlighting their academic programs, educational and research capabilities, areas of excellence, and shared interests. The presentations also provided an opportunity to explore how both institutions could benefit from their respective expertise and scientific and research capabilities

Prof. El-Sabbagh emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation among higher education institutions across the Arab region and developing sustainable academic and research partnerships that facilitate knowledge and expertise exchange, support researchers and students, and create new opportunities for collaboration in scientific and technological fields of mutual priority

The E-JUST President also presented the university’s unique experience as a leading model of strategic partnership between the governments of Egypt and Japan in higher education and scientific research. He highlighted E-JUST’s academic and research model, which draws on Japanese expertise and practices in education, research, and innovation, supported by advanced research infrastructure and laboratories. He also underscored the university’s commitment to integrating academic learning with practical application, fostering a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship, and strengthening links between scientific research outcomes and industry

The discussions addressed potential areas of cooperation, particularly in education, scientific research, and innovation, as well as the exchange of academic and research expertise and opportunities to develop joint activities and projects. Such cooperation would enable both universities to capitalize on their complementary capabilities and expand opportunities for mutually beneficial academic and research engagement

At the conclusion of the meeting, the two sides agreed to continue coordination toward developing a Memorandum of Cooperation between the two universities, with a view to signing it during an upcoming visit by a delegation from the University of Technology and Applied Sciences to the E-JUST campus in Egypt. The proposed memorandum is expected to provide an institutional framework for strengthening the partnership and opening broader avenues for academic and research cooperation and the exchange of expertise between the two institutions
