Egypt–Japan University of Science and Technology Welcomes Japan’s Minister of Education and the Japanese Ambassador to Egypt

Reaffirming the Depth of the Strategic Egypt–Japan Partnership in Higher Education The Egypt–Japan University of Science and Technology (E-JUST) welcomed, at its Smart Village campus, on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, H.E. Mr. Matsumoto Yohei, Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan, and H.E. Ambassador Fumio Iwai, Ambassador of Japan to the Arab Republic of Egypt, during a high-level official visit reflecting the strength and depth of Egypt–Japan relations and underscoring E-JUST’s distinguished status as a leading model of bilateral cooperation in higher education and scientific research.

The Japanese delegation was received by Prof. Hany Helal, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of E-JUST, and Prof. Amr Adly, President of the University, along with representatives from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan (MEXT), officials from the Embassy of Japan in Cairo, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and a number of E-JUST deans.

Prof. Hany Helal: E-JUST Is the Longest Educational Bridge Between Cairo and Tokyo At the outset of the meeting, Prof. Hany Helal warmly welcomed the Japanese delegation, noting that the visit came in response to an official invitation extended to H.E. the Minister during their meeting in Tokyo in October 2025.

Prof. Helal emphasized that educational cooperation represents one of the most successful and profound pillars of Egypt–Japan relations, highlighting that E-JUST stands as one of the most prominent outcomes of this partnership, alongside the Egyptian-Japanese Schools and KOSEN Institutes. “The Egypt–Japan University is not merely an academic institution; it is the longest educational bridge extending between Cairo and Tokyo,” Prof. Helal stated.

Japan’s Minister of Education: Egypt Is My First Official Visit—E-JUST Is a Success Story H.E. Mr. Matsumoto Yohei affirmed that Egypt is the first country he has officially visited since assuming office as Japan’s Minister of Education, a clear indication of Egypt’s strategic importance within Japan’s international education agenda.

The Minister praised E-JUST’s achievements, particularly its notable advancement in global university rankings over the past three consecutive years, stressing that such progress reflects the strength of the university’s academic and research ecosystem and solidifies its position as an internationally recognized institution.

He also expressed his sincere appreciation to Prof. Hany Helal and Prof. Amr Adly for their dedicated leadership and continuous efforts in steering the university along the right strategic path. Direct Japanese Support and Expanded Cooperation with Leading Japanese Universities.

H.E. the Minister confirmed that MEXT intends to provide full and direct support to E-JUST, through the launch of advanced academic and research cooperation programs with leading Japanese universities, including the University of Tokyo and the University of Tsukuba.

The planned cooperation will include, Support for postgraduate and undergraduate students, Development of dual-degree programs, Enhancement of shared educational and research infrastructure, Strengthening institutional collaboration between Egyptian and Japanese universities.

University President: E-JUST as a Regional Hub for Japanese-Inspired Education Prof. Amr Adly stated that the visit represents a significant milestone in the university’s journey, reaffirming E-JUST’s strategic vision to serve as a regional hub for transferring the Japanese educational model to Egypt and Africa, while preparing globally competitive graduates equipped with advanced scientific and professional skills. In his remarks, H.E. Ambassador Fumio Iwai emphasized that E-JUST represents a successful and exemplary model of Egypt–Japan cooperation, expressing his aspiration for the university to continue serving as a beacon of knowledge and innovation across Egypt, Africa, and the Middle East.

This high-level visit reaffirms that education and scientific research remain the cornerstone of Egypt–Japan relations, and that the Egypt–Japan University of Science and Technology continues to strengthen its role as one of the most distinguished international partnership models in higher education.
